About Pondscapes Australia

Our interest in ponds started well before Pondscapes Australia.

At home, we converted our backyard swimming pool into a functioning aquaponics system stocked with trout, short-fin eels and Murray cod. Water from the system supplied nutrients to our family garden, which regularly produced food for our household.

That experience sparked a much broader interest in aquatic ecosystems, water quality, filtration and the way ponds function as complete biological systems.

What started as a personal interest eventually developed into Pondscapes Australia.

Our Approach

We believe a good pond needs to work properly beneath the surface, not just look good when it is finished.

Every project is considered around factors such as water volume, circulation, filtration, biological load, oxygenation, waterproofing, access for maintenance and how the pond will develop over time.

We particularly enjoy creating ponds that feel established within their surroundings rather than looking overly manufactured.

Natural rock placement, planting and water movement are important to us, but they are always supported by the filtration, plumbing and construction required for the pond to perform reliably long-term.

Ecology & Industry Experience

Before starting Pondscapes, Angus studied pond ecology for a little over a year before leaving the course to focus on building the business.

In addition to running Pondscapes Australia, Angus currently works at Lotus Watergardens, part of Gardenworld, where he has worked within the pond industry for nearly four years.

Working in a specialist pond retail environment provides regular exposure to the problems pond owners encounter in the real world, including poor water quality, inadequate filtration, incorrect pump sizing, circulation issues, algae, leaks and equipment failures.

It has also developed a strong working knowledge of the major pond equipment brands, filtration systems and products available, and how different solutions can be applied to both existing ponds and new builds.
